Local friends website? At www.4friendshiponly.co.uk we run a local friends website. By that we mean we don't claim to be international even though our membership is open to all. This is because we feel that there really is little point in getting a friends request from 6,000 miles away. It's probably quite an exotic idea, after all the world is getting smaller apparently, but if you are genuinely searching for friends then being in the same country has to be a good start. It's important to us to build up a good membership in specific countries so that you have a chance of finding local friends.
Why local friends? Many people join international websites without really considering what that means. For example the population of the UK is over 60,000,000 and it's not entirely realistic to imagine you can cover even one country in detail, never mind the world! Of course we all know of the most famous social networks who really have achieved global domination, but if like our members you are just looking for local friends, maybe for dinner parties, going out for the day or simply to expand your social circle, then the same country, state and county is where you need to look.
Membership charges. We make great efforts to ensure our site stays 'on theme'. That is couples only, friendship only. It would be easier and therefore less expensive just to let new members log straight in without checking profiles. In fact you could run a website with members almost automatically if 'anything goes'. But we have high standards, the sort of standards our members expect of course, and the membership relies on us to be the gatekeeper. This means that every profile is checked before acceptance and is not visible on the site until this process is complete. A mail is then sent to the new member confirming their membership, or the profile is deleted if it is not acceptable. We never keep bad profiles on the site, visible or not, to artificially increase membership. At the most expect one or two of the latest joiners to be awaiting approval and noty available until checked. All this takes time and it doesn't stop there. Existing approved members are able of course to amend their details, in fact we positively encourage this to help other members decide if a friendship request is appropriate, but after each change their profile is again checked by us, not by an automated piece of software. All this time costs money and that's why we offer free and paid membership with additional facilities. But, and it's a very big 'but', why not join for free, stay as long as you like for free, and if you want to upgrade look at the cost!
I expect high standards! Good, you are at the right place! Members profiles can never be browsed by non members so internet 'surfers' are kept out. You can choose levels of privacy and you have to specifically allow another member to contact you. No random messages. The site is easy to use and we are very approachable (!) should you need to contact us. We always reply and get back to you as soon as we can. We aim to respond to members the way we like to be asked. So if you have feedback, of any sort, they please do let us know. We will do our best to rectify the issue and use your contact as a learning resource. The more you tell us, the better we get!
